Vibrant butterflies dance through the air, their wings painted in hues you’ve never seen before. It’s a scene straight out of a dream, where time seems to stand still, and worries melt away.

In this tranquil oasis, you find yourself completely at peace, connected to the beauty of nature in its purest form. As we dine together under the beautiful sky, we look forward to knowing more about you and sharing our passion for wellness, self-love, and transformation.

As the sun sets, we’ll gather for our first Coffee Mom Circle – a significant part of our journey. This time of unity and connection allows us to set our intentions for the week, share our hopes, and create a communal bond that will empower us all. This circle is our safe, non-judgmental space where each person’s voice is heard and respected. We close the day with restful sleep.

The morning begins as the sun peeks over the horizon, we’ll gather for a nourishing breakfast at our resort’s dining area. Savor the selection of fresh fruits, local delicacies, and refreshing beverages to fuel you for the exciting day ahead.

After a delicious and interactive lunch, we’ll journey to a nearby stunning waterfall for a refreshing dip and relaxation. This tranquil environment is perfect for revitalizing your senses and finding peace within.

The Life of Costa Rica

Now, let’s talk culture. Costa Ricans, or Ticos as they’re lovingly called, are the real MVPs of friendliness. They exude warmth and hospitality, making you feel like an honorary member of their extended family. Pura Vida isn’t just a phrase here; it’s a way of life. It means living life to the fullest, appreciating nature’s wonders, and embracing each moment with a big ol’ grin.

Religion-wise, you’ll find a delightful mix. While the predominant religion is Roman Catholicism, Costa Rica is an open-minded place where various faiths coexist harmoniously. It’s a testament to their inclusive spirit and their ability to find unity in diversity.

Let’s remember the rich history that has shaped this paradise. From the indigenous roots to Spanish colonization and onwards, every stone, every street, every corner has a tale to tell. Museums and historical sites dot the landscape, inviting you to step back in time and connect with the vibrant heritage that defines this nation.

Language? Spanish is the melody of communication here, but don’t worry if your Spanish is a bit rusty. Ticos are known for their patience and willingness to help you find the right words – often with a hearty smile.

And as for the region itself, well, Costa Rica is like nature’s playground. Beach lovers, thrill seekers, wildlife enthusiasts – everyone finds their own slice of paradise here. National parks are practically around every bend, and each seems like a canvas painted with rare creatures, dazzling birds, and landscapes straight out of a dream.

Sure, other places might have four seasons, but here in Costa Rica, it’s more like the never-ending summer that you’ve always wished for. And let’s not forget the breeze – that gentle, refreshing whisper from the ocean that dances through the palm trees. Rain? Of course, it happens, but even when it does, it’s like a quick, refreshing shower that cools things down before the sun takes its spotlight again.

Costa Rica is not just a destination; it’s an experience that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

Myisha Williams
Facilitator, Reiki Healer, & Business Consultant

Hey there, beautiful souls! I’m Myisha, and let me tell you, life has taken me on a wild ride, but I’m here with a heart full of passion and a purpose that’s lighting up my path.

I am a 39-year-old melanin queen rocking the single mom life with three incredible kiddos who keep me laughing and learning every single day. They’re my motivation, my joy, and my continuous reminder that life is meant to be lived to the fullest.

Speaking of living life to the fullest, I’ve spent a solid two decades in the business world, soaking up experience like a sponge. From helping businesses find their groove to navigating the intriguing waters of the film and travel industries and even diving into the world of government security, I’ve worn many hats and picked up a treasure chest of skills along the way.

But let me invite you deeper into my journey – a journey that unfolded after a chapter of my life ended. Following a painful divorce, I found myself in the aftermath of a traumatic breakup. As I rebuilt my life and my family, I also rebuilt my relationship with myself and the universe. This winding path led me to the world of Reiki, and I’m now a certified practitioner, channeling healing energies to find balance and share that profound experience with others.

In the midst of life’s challenges, one thing has become crystal clear: self-care and spiritual healing are the compass guiding me forward. I’ve faced my own share of past traumas, and each day, I take a step towards healing, growing, and flourishing in the light of my own resilience.

And that’s precisely why I’m thrilled to be hosting a retreat for incredible melanin mothers like us. This is more than just a retreat – it’s a journey of rediscovery, a sanctuary of self-love, and a celebration of the fierce power that resides within each of us. With my knack for facilitating events and activities in the community, I can’t wait to create a space where we can connect, uplift, and heal together.

So here’s to embracing our melanin magic, to healing old wounds, and to forging connections that uplift us all.

Join me on this beautiful journey, and let’s make it a chapter we’ll fondly remember forever.

Where do I fly into?

San Jose (Airport Code SJO) International airport Costa Rica

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes, meals are vegetarian and vegan, gluten free and dairy free. Any other dietary restrictions please let us know in advance.

Is it safe to travel to Costa Rica?

Yes, Costa Rica is the safest country in Latin America in 2023.

What is the weather like?

DRY SEASON – December, January, February, March, April:

For most regions, Costa Rican dry season lasts from December through April, and features significantly less rain and much more comfortable temperatures. This is also peak tourist season, so if you’re not into crowds you may want to opt for travel during the shoulder season.

Pack comfortable and lightweight layers so that you can add them and remove them as needed. Fabrics that dry quickly are still important – you may be engaging in water activities, or ones that make you sweat. Don’t forget your hat, reed-safe sunscreen, and sunglasses – the sun is extremely strong when you’re near the equator, so come prepared!

Temperatures average between 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C) during this time of year, with November through January being the coolest months.

WET SEASON – May, June, July, August, September, October, November:

These months bring rain to almost the entire country – and lots of it! Although the Caribbean region of the country has very enjoyable weather during September and October, if you’re looking to travel during those months.

The best parts about traveling during the rainy or “green” season are the gorgeous vegetation (hence the term “green season”), the incredible waterfalls, and the smaller tourist crowds that make sight-seeing easier. The rain, however, can take a toll on unprepared travelers. Bring a good rain jacket and dependable hiking shoes that can withstand water. It’s also wise to bring a second pair of sandals or water shoes to avoid having to re-wear soggy shoes. Quick-dry fabrics are crucial.

Temperatures during the wet season average between 75°F to 85°F (about 24°C to 29°C), though it will feel humid and a little hotter than it really is.

What should I wear in Costa Rica?

Casual comfort is the idea here. Breathable, light fabrics will serve you well in this tropical climate. Thin cotton or linen, airy athletic fabrics, and anything quick-dry will be assets on your adventure, as well as when packing since they’re so light and compact.

Light layers, rain jacket, convertible quick-dry pants, and a pair of good-quality, broken-in (preferably waterproof) hiking boots, will be your best friends here. The idea is to stay comfortable in any of Costa Rica’s climate zones by adding or removing layers, and staying as dry as possible.

What do I pack?

Costa Rica is a tropical rainforest and a jungle full of biodiversity! The biodiversity creates fauna, plants, trees and an exotic jungle atmosphere.

Many animals call this region of Costa Rica home, including monkeys and sloths. With this beauty comes minor challenges such as mosquitoes, unexpected rain, power outages (not common but may happen), and lots of moisture.

Here is what is recommended to pack for your stay in Costa Rica to ensure you are prepared for all the elements and wonders Costa Rica has to offer!

  • Bring many clothing options; you will likely sweat/get wet during this course and the humidity is high so your clothes might not fully dry as quickly as you’d expect
  • Earplugs/Eye pillow for sleeping if you are in a shared accommodation
  • Waterproof phone case
  • Organic activated charcoal supplements to help your tummy acclimate to a new environment
  • Travel insurance
  • Small, portable charger
  • Mosquito repellent/repellent wristbands
  • Waterproof shoes (light and airy, yet able to stay comfy in the rain; I recommend crocs or something similar)
  • Waterproof, underwater camera
  • Hiking shoes
  • Rain jacket or poncho
  • A small, water resistant backpack for day travels
  • Travel towel
  • Water bottle with built-in filter
  • Spare copies (physical and electronic) of all travel documents (passports, etc.)
  • Sunscreen
  • RDIF safe wallet for cards and passports
  • Travel-friendly debit/cards with low international fees for ATM cash withdrawals and card purchases

Important Packing Tips

  • Costa Rica has a very damp and HOT climate — we recommend bringing many pieces of clothing rather than planning on re-wearing an item many times. Clothes that have been worn and become sweaty may not dry at all due to the humidity. Clothes that are hand-washed in your rooms may also not fully dry unless you pay for the professional laundry services at the center.
  • Laundry services are available (washed and returned dry within 1-2 days) at the center for $10 USD per medium-sized, bag.
  • There are A LOT of bugs and mosquitoes in Costa Rica. Please plan accordingly with STRONG bug spray.
  • It feels nice to wear loose-fitting, breezy clothing rather than skin-tight yoga pants due to the humidity and heat in this area. Cotton and other breathable materials are recommended.
  • Back-up your photos/phone/devices to the cloud prior to coming and throughout the trip in the case your phone gets lost/stolen/wet/damaged
  • We do not recommend bringing valuables and irreplaceables. Be mindful in your decision to bring a computer or other expensive devices due to the possibility of your devices being damaged or stolen (not likely that items will be stolen as the center is very secure, but it can still happen while traveling internationally).

How can I offset the impact of my traveling by plane?

It is around a 4-hour drive to travel from the retreat center to SJO airport, so please plan returning flights accordingly. Most International flights require checking-in at the airport around 3 hours prior to departure. Flights on April 5, 2025 should be planned for no earlier than 2:00pm.

Is it safe to drink the Costa Rican water?

It’s technically safe to drink the water in much of Costa Rica, however, many accommodations will still provide filtered water for your comfort and peace of mind. Once you venture into more rural locations you’re less likely to be able to drink from the tap, so bottled water is recommended. Bring along a filtered water bottle if you want to be absolutely sure that your water is drinkable.

Are any vaccinations recommended?

All vaccines are completely optional. Some travelers feel more peace-of-mind with the following routine vaccinations for travel anywhere — measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine.

Additionally, the CDC recommends Hepatitis A and Typhoid if you’re planning to travel to Costa Rica. Other suggestions include Hepatitis B, rabies, and Yellow Fever shots depending on your intended length of stay and if you plan to travel elsewhere.

What is medical care like in Costa Rica?

There is a fairly high quality of medical care available in Costa Rica. However, keep in mind that many U.S. insurance policies do not cover some international incidents, so it’s best to check with your provider. Trip insurance is also recommended in case of last-minute cancellations and re-bookings for emergencies.

Do I need a power adaptor to use Costa Rican outlets?

Costa Rica electrical outlets run on 110 volts — the same as the United States.

Do I need a visa for Costa Rica?

U.S. passport holders do not need a visa to travel to Costa Rica. However, you ARE required to show proof of onward travel. Check the embassy website for requirements of other nationalities.

What is the Costa Rican Departure Tax?

The departure tax is a fee charged to travelers leaving Costa Rica by air – it’s typically not charged to those leaving by land or sea. The tax is around $29 and is sometimes included in return airfare if you purchased ahead of time. Check your purchase confirmation for your airline tickets if you’re unsure.

What is your cancellation policy?

See our registration page for the cancellation policy.
